The investment in tourism and alternative forms of tourism, will be the focus of a meeting between tourism minister Olga Kefaloyianni, with the German Labor Undersecretary Hans Fouchtel on Friday, March 8, in Berlin, on the occasion of Greece’s participation in ITB Verlin (6 -10 March).

During her stay in Berlin, Minister of Tourism, will also have a meeting with the managing director of TUI Friedrich Joussen, with representatives of international tour operators and senior staff of foreign media.

On Tuesday, at the inaugural event at the ITB Belin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel met -upon her request- the Greek tourism operators.

Given that Indonesia is the country of honor for this year in ITB, particular importance to this initiative of Mrs Merkel ascribed.

‘It was very important that this initiative manifested in the opening of such a major global tourism exhibition like ITB Berlin’ said the general secretary of GNTO, Panos Livadas after the meeting with the Chancellor, while at the same wavelength was the statement of Hans Joachim Fouchtel: ‘This is a brilliant start to the international tourism exhibition ITB and a powerful message about the German-Greek cooperation. The fact that this meeting took place at the beginning of the exhibition is a good omen for the progress of Greece in ITB’.

At the same time the messages for Greece is positive and seem to confirm the predictions of the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE), which refer to an increase in tourist traffic in at least 17 million tourists from 15.5 million last year.

What encourages Germans to come again to Greece, is the improve of the country’s image abroad, claimed the president of the German Tourism Association, Juergen Buechy.
