Last week we talked about article submission and how working on article submission sites can help you build credibility and drive traffic to your site in a non-aggressive way. This week is about social media- more specifically Facebook and Twitter. This section will be split into two weeks to speak separately about Facebook and Twitter. We’ll cover Facebook this week.
Facebook is the most used social networking site on the web. MySpace is better known for personal profiles, while Facebook offers a better approach for businesses and organizations. Facebook also has their own PPC ad program, similar to Google AdWords.
This will cover:
The process to set up a profile is easy. Simply go to Facebook.com and go through the sign up process. You’ll be asked for all the basic information all member sites ask for. Once you’re profile is set up you can always go into ‘edit profile’ and add to it. You can add your interests, education, work experience and more. Next you need to add friends to build awareness that you’ve joined the Facebook family. The fastest way to get started is to upload your current address book.
The appearance of your profile page can make a big difference. You want it to change up the look of your profile be careful not to stray too far from the standard look. You don’t want to confuse or push away visitors. Look through the Facebook apps to see if there is something you can use to boost business, but keep it simple.
Once you have a personal profile set up you can add a business page. Business pages are different from personal profiles, so make sure you go through the settings of your business page to include important elements.
You will also glean information on some of the advanced features Facebook offers for business pages. These features can help you draw in more traffic and drive that traffic to your website. This information also tells you how advertising on Facebook is just as effective, if not more, as advertising on Google.
Next week we’ll finish up social media by talking about Twitter. Twitter is used by millions of people every day, all day. By becoming involved in the Twitter community you can reach millions of followers throughout the site.
