My compliments to the greek government on their negotiation policy. They were creative, always changing direction and had good control over the media attention. Just after negotiations closed, they decided to ask the greek people what they want using a referendum.
From their perspective a sound decision. Taking a deal with Europe while getting elected for turning down new cuts would be very undemocratic, so I understand this decision. It was also a way to buy time and to throw european politicians off balance. And that actually worked ! Europe is now waiting what is the decision of the greek people.
That seems ultimately democratic, but unfortunately it isn't Why would 10 mln greeks get to decide on this issue, while 500 mln european citizens are involved ? If we want to settle this democratically there is only one way and that is that all european citizen are asked what we should do.
