BMW is in the fast lane when it comes to driving electric. In addition to the successful debut of the BMW i3 and BMW i8, there is the BMW Concept X5 eDrive: the first SAV® to combine xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive with a plug-in hybrid system. This commanding vehicle can be charged quickly and easily at home or at any public charging station, and generates zero tail-pipe emissions when traveling in all-electric mode. BMW-style performance also gets the green light, with 0–60 mph acceleration in under 7 seconds and a top all-electric speed of 75 mph.

A hybrid vehicle, the BMW Concept X5 eDrive pairs its electric motor with a TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder combustion engine that uses intelligent energy management to deliver lower fuel consumption and emissions. BMW also employs advanced features to optimize its aerodynamics, such as Air Curtains that channel oncoming air into the front wheel arches and around the front wheels, reducing turbulence and air resistance.
