George Town Festival


    George Town World Heritage Day Laughing

    George Town was accorded the prestigious UNESCO World Heritage List of Cities and Sites for its " outstanding universal value", on 7th July 2008. This award showcases Penang's unique historical and architectural buildings, Multi-ethnic cultural heritage, old "colonial townscape" and landscapes.

    To commemorate this momentous occasion, every 7th July has been named as George Town World Heritage Day and is announced as a public holiday for the state of Penang.
    Besides, Penang also being awarded as below;

    PENANG Awards & Recognition: 

    1) George Town was granted the "UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site" status in July 2008.
    2) Voted as No.2 out of "The 44 places To Go in 2009" and Top 12 in the Frugal & Food category by the readers of TheNew York Times. 
    3) Voted 8th "Most Livable and Workable City in Asia" by ECA International.
    4) Named one of the "Top 10 Islands To Explore Before You Die" by Yahoo Travel. 
    5) Penang Assam Laksa Listed as No.7 out of "World's 50 Most Delicious Foods" by CNNGo. 
    6) Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion listed as No.2 "Greatest Mansions and Grand Houses" by Lonely Planet.
     7) Chingay declared as "Malaysia's National Cultural Heritage". 
    8) Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon 2011 listed as the "Largest Bridge Marathon in Malaysia" by Malaysia Book of Records. 
    9) Voted "Best Asian City for Street Food" by CNNGo.
