A personal injury law firm serving the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), is issuing a warning to drivers to be cautious of other drivers this spring and summer after a number of reported fatalities on congested Ontario roads.
The expert lawyers at Hanson Duby Personal Injury Law have noticed an increase in the number of fatalities on Ontario roads that involve cars, trucks, buses, and 18-wheelers. Most recently, two people died on the QEW after a crash involving four vehicles; two other victims were seriously injured. While the accident was caused by two colliding cars, the situation was exacerbated when the driver of a tractor-trailer, in an attempt to avoid the crash, struck a centre median. A second tractor-trailer was also involved in the accident. “The results of an accident with another motor vehicle can be life altering,” says Spyros Bekiaris, a lawyer at Hanson Duby. “Serious brain injuries or spinal injuries can result in paraplegia and/or quadriplegia. Motor vehicle accidents often involve fire and can leave passengers with severe burns. Recovering from these types of injuries can take years. Accidents that involve big trucks can be deadly.”
Bekiaris joined Hanson Duby Personal Injury Law as an associate in September 2010. He graduated from York University with an Honours BA in political science and from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law with a JD in 2009. He formerly worked at a boutique insurance defence firm in Toronto, representing insurance companies.
Bekiaris has appeared before the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice, and the Divisional Court. Spyros represents clients in a variety of disputes including motor vehicle accidents, accident benefits, slips and falls, property damage claims and assault cases, representing the victims. Bekiaris is a member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and the Hellenic Canadian Lawyers’ Association.
“When it comes to choosing the right personal injury lawyer in Toronto, it’s important to be cautious and find a firm you can trust. One that looks out for your best interest—this often gets lost with high volume law practices,” Bekiaris observes. “You also want results. A lawyer should have experience and be comfortable in a courtroom, and be able to litigate a case to trial and appeal if need be.”
