Last week we wrapped up the series on videos and how you can use videos online to grow your business. Even if you have no experience with video production you can use a few simple tricks to get started.

If you use online marketing techniques, it is important to track your results. One of the most popular ways to track your advertising campaigns is Google Analytics. This area gives pertinent information on how this program works and the benefits it offers you.

If you’re not familiar with Analytics, it can give you a ton of information about who is visiting your site. You can see results for the day, week, month, or a specific period of time. This will let you know about sources, referring websites, page views, and lots of other information. This information will help you see where your advertising is working.

It’s easy to set up a Google Analytics account, and it’s also free.  If you already have a Google account, you can sign up using your Google account. Once signed in, add your site URL and click ‘finish’. You can follow the easy to understand instructions and place an HTML code on your site for tracking to begin. It generally takes 24-48 hours to start generating data.

We talk about the five essential areas to track. The number one thing to track is visitors. You can track how many you’ve had, how long they stayed on your site, where they came from, and lots of other pertinent information.

We also discuss terms like bounce rate, traffic sources, keywords, and other terms that can tell you if your sites and ads are working. You don’t want visitors to bounce quickly from your site to another, but would rather they spend some time perusing and exploring your site. This is referred to as a quality visitor.

This information concludes with a plan to set goals for your site. Take into consideration the results of Analytics, and set goals accordingly. You can even put your goals into Analytics and track those them.

Next week we’re going to talk viral content. You’ve heard the expression “going viral” and you can utilize that concept to drive traffic to your site. It’s not as difficult as you may think.
