Last week we talked about link building. Link building is an important way to make new friends and increase traffic to your website and blog. This week we’re going to venture into forums and networking. This week will start with forums and next week will cover networking. Both are great ways to build your online presence and draw in new leads and partners.
If you’re looking for a way to create interest in your website or products, participating in forums can help. There are a variety of forums online, and most are relatively easy to figure out. This area covers the ins and outs of participating in forums.
Forums provide users with the opportunity to communicate directly to other users. You can ask and answer questions and actively be involved in topics relative to your industry. The conversation is casual and open. Your conversation is available for all users to see, unless you choose to message a user privately.
Finding forums related to your industry is easier than you think. Use search engines to locate specific forums or visit some general forums mentioned. Master forums contain topics on a variety of subjects. Most forums require you to register before you can comment. The sign up process is easy and requires only basic information. Attach your website URL to your comments through the use of a gravatar or signature line. This will lead readers back to your website.
There are some rules you need to know before using forums. We list the rules to follow so forum administrators don’t kick you out. Always take the time to read the rules. Every forum is different, so be aware of the user guidelines of each forum before interacting. Comments should be tactful and relevant. Let your signature lead users to your website in a subtle way. It’s not polite to push your sales agenda this can get you banned from the forum. Offer information that is helpful and encouraging. If people see that you know what you’re talking about, they are more likely to follow the link to your website for more.
Next week we’re going to continue and talk about the different avenues of networking. Networking can be utilized to draw in leads and partners to work with.
