Children at two Centro Mater after-school care sites are learning first-hand how to eat healthy by growing their own food. The little farmers kicked off their scholastic harvesting efforts by taking time to learn how to care for their vegetable and herb gardens.
The daily garden upkeep is part of their outdoor playtime and helps keep the kids active. Recently, the children also had the opportunity to eat a meal made with ingredients they grew, and were able share their crops with their parents.
All of the activities were part of Centro Mater’s program to recognize National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month in September.
