Last week we wrapped up social media. Over the last two weeks we talked about social media heavyweights Facebook and Twitter and learned how both are vital to a success online marketing campaign.

This week we are starting on affiliates. This week we’ll cover the basics of affiliate marketing and next week we’ll take a closer look at Clickbank. Working with affiliates and offering an affiliate program of your own give you the opportunity to increase revenue with little additional work.

Affiliates come in all shapes and sizes. You can work with other internet marketers to promote both sets of products, you can promote product from other businesses, you can set up an affiliate program of your own and you can work with ad programs. AdSense is the ad program Google offers you money for allowing them to advertise on your site. There are a couple of different programs to choose from and the ads are customized to the content on your site.

There are three programs offered through Google AdSense. AdSense Content is based on text only ads that are complementary to your content. Google scans your site for the content base and ads are placed in the box based on those topics.

AdSense Search allows you to make money by placing a search box on your site.

Google Referrals is a program based on offering products and services to your viewers. You place HTML code into your site to decide where you want to place the ads.

You can also offer advertising on your site. This draws in other professionals to build partnerships with. For this to be successful you need to have a decent amount of pages views. You can offer flat rate, PPC and PPI packages.

Promoting affiliate products and services is another great way to draw in new traffic and make a little extra money. You want to choose products that make sense for you to promote. Choose products that are complementary to your products and services, without being competitive.

Consider building your own affiliate program that rewards affiliates for successfully promoting your products and services. Take the time to put together a training plan so your affiliates will project the image you want for your company.

Next week we’ll talk more in-depth about Clickbank.  Clickbank is a huge database of products offered as affiliate opportunities. You can pick products to promote and submit products you would like affiliates to promote.
