It provides a professional counseling service free of charge for all students and staff. The service consists of a team of professional counselors with a wide variety and depth of experience in counseling and psychotherapy.
They are familiar with the common challenges and difficulties facing students and staff in the university community and offer the following services:
Counselors provide confidential, individual counseling to help with any personal issues affecting work, self esteem, relationships, mental health or general well being.
Counselors work collaboratively, one to one with the client and provide help in focusing on finding solutions to problems or actively working through emotional and psychological difficulties
Alongside individual counseling the service offers courses and groups on personal development, confidence building, coping with academic pressures, helping yourself succeed, mindfulness based stress reduction, and exam stress. Some of this work is part of a wider programme to promote all round well being jointly organised by the Counseling Service and the Directorate of Sport.If students are not sure if, or how, counseling can help, they might find it most useful to make an initial appointment to talk through their needs and concerns with a counselor.
Counselors can provide telephone or face to face guidance for tutors, supervisors, friends or flat mates concerned about the welfare of a third party and the best ways of helping.
The Counseling Service also provides workshops on subjects such as Achieving Your Potential, Reducing Stress, Coping Better with Academic Pressures, Relaxation, Confidence Building and Self Esteem. Booking details are available through the Counseling Service.
